Five Reasons Why Workplace Flexibility Is A Smart Talent Strategy

Most of us, at some point in our lives, worked in organizations that were tough and irreconcilable. You know, the office world is meters of gray carpet flooded with fluorescent light. We all know that these types of corporate culture generate mediocrity. They kill souls (not to mention productivity and creativity). The company may be able to survive by being managed in this way, but it will not grow. Because the best talents will not have any interest in working in such a place.

Experienced leaders understand that talented people are the most important factor in a company’s success. You can provide all the essentials, but without the right talent, you will simply run away. And in order to attract and retain such a talented person, you must work with him to adjust the work to his needs. This makes people feel appreciated, leading to maximum productivity. The main thing is to be flexible and ready to cooperate on business hours and location. Remote work is effective due to the large number of reasonable reasons at the present time.

The benefits of collaborating with talents to plan the optimal flexibility of their workplace include:

1) Personal interest and participation. When you work with people to set their work schedule and personal life, you do not impose anything on them. You treat them with respect and trust. Which will definitely return to you. And when talented employees decide to work at home three days a week, they make serious commitments to the organization. Instead of working for you, they work with you. This creates a tremendous commitment and a better corporate culture in the workplace.

2) Wider talent pool. If talent does not need to be in the office, your talent pool will suddenly become global, rather than local or even regional. You can build productive relationships with talent across the country or around the world. With social networks, intranets, groups working on specific projects and newsgroups, distances are becoming increasingly unprincipled. Caution: with this method, there is nothing like the time of live communication, and creative sparks often arise when people are actually together in the same room, doing a brainstorming session. Remote work is a tool that should be used wisely.

3) Higher morale. Studies show that organizations that offer workplace flexibility have less absenteeism and staff turnover, but a higher level of engagement and productivity. Again, it comes down to control. We all need to feel that we are in control of our lives, and by working with talent on flexible schedules, you give them real control. They feel, trust and value, and their contribution to the work, as well as to the organization, is increasing.

4) Reasonable strategy. Today, many organizations view workplace flexibility as a strategic step rather than employee benefits. The bottom line is that progressive companies can attract and retain talent more easily. People who have a lot to offer, want to work in companies that regard them as adults and demonstrate a sensitive, energetic, progressive culture. At a more prosaic level, telecommuting can save on office supplies, real estate, and utilities. Unilever, for example, allows 100,000 employees — for almost all personnel, with the exception of factory workers — to work anytime, anywhere, as long as work is done.

5) Added value. Really engaged employees do not leave their work, even when their working day is over. They run their ongoing projects around the clock, and are always open to new inspiration or insight. Ideas surround us. Workers who work remotely, or according to a flexible schedule invented with their help, are more open to the world and new information, away from the office, where stagnation can often be observed. A worker with a comprehensive, active life will bring much more to any job, and may well find inspiration – which can then be used in the current project – in unexpected places.

Remote work can be a problem for managers. They cannot simply approach someone in person to discuss the matter. Balancing workloads and schedules can also be tricky if you manage remotely. But the result is worth it. It’s all about treating people like adults. Workplace flexibility is an amazing tool for leadership. Use this.
